A case can be made for most of these but the vote goes to the least exposed runner in the race, GABRIAL THE VIKING, who begins handicap life on an attractive mark based on his Chester maiden win, and whose trainer Richard Fahey (who also saddles the respected Jumeirah Glory) has won this three times in the last nine years. The main threat could be Alans Pride, who is well worth another chance over 1m back on this forecast better ground, with nursery newcomer Sir Chauvelin also of interest. [Ben Hutton]

AINIPPE was slightly disappointing when only fifth in the Flying Childers at Doncaster last week but that performance still gives her strong form claims and she is taken to add to her earlier maiden and Listed victories. Zuhoor Baynoona has been off since May but based on the promise shown on her two starts she has the potential to be a big threat to the selection. Spirit Of Xian may not be far away, with the same applying to the likes of Pastoral Girl (if bouncing back from last time), Prize Exhibit and Royal Razalma, while Lady Desire and Marsh Pride need to step up on what they have shown so far but may be capable of doing so. The closer to the stand rail the better on the evidence so far. Among those drawn high, MEHDI was mostly below his best in 2013 when his yard had a difficult season but he's well handicapped again and has shown clear signs of retaining ability for his new trainer. Bogart has plenty going for him after his good second in the Portland last week but a quick return might not be ideal in his case and he has sometimes flagged in strongly run races at this longer trip. Huntsmans Close is respected on his Goodwood run last month, with Green Howard preferred of the middle numbers and Yeeoow a possibility if the low draws come into it.[Emily Weber]

Saeed Bin Suroor has won this three times in the last five years and Sky Hunter would be tough to beat if rediscovering last year's French form for Andre Fabre. A first-time hood and gelding operation may help him leave behind his first two British starts in spring but he's nothing like a solid proposition and preference is for SENNOCKIAN STAR. He hasn't quite lasted home over trips in the region of 1m4f on his last two starts but holds appealing claims based on this year's solid, progressive 1m2f form. Gabrial is also back down to a more suitable trip and could give him plenty to think about. [Ben Hutton]

Sprint handicaps don't come any better than this one. Watchable has been going great guns but he has more to do under a penalty in a better race than when winning at the Curragh on Sunday and he has to overcome a low draw. Stablemate Louis The Pious, second in this race last year and a 7f winner at Royal Ascot in June, has major claims but BLAINE (nap) is steadily returning to his top 2yo form and won at York last time despite the return to a shorter trip rather than because of it. Highland Acclaim is also high up the list, while Alben Star has an obvious chance on this summer's form but is another who looks to have been unlucky with the draw. Mass Rally is also respected.[Emily Weber]

  • William Hill TV  William Hill TV

Not many of the older horses have much potential upside and the 3yos Jacob Black and TOP OF THE GLAS make most appeal. The former is still unexposed and is clearly well suited by a stiff 1m but the selection has gone from strength to strength since joining Brian Ellison and his latest Chester win can be upgraded as he met his share of trouble before coming with a strong late run. A 7lb rise might not be enough to prevent a follow up.[Paul Smith]
