The 2016 Royal Ascot Festival featured plenty of familiar faces and a few surprises at the winning post. Ryan Moore added to his collection of big race wins by landing the Gold Cup on Order of St George and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Twilight Son. Frankie Dettori reminded everyone why he is considered one of the all-time greats by winning the St James’s Palace Stakes on Galileo Gold. Queen Elizabeth’s horse, Dartmouth, provided some royal smiles by winning the Hardwicke Stakes on the final day. All in all, Royal Ascot 2016 was a thrilling affair. You can view the results of all 30 Ascot races below:

Despite the rain, Day 1 of Royal Ascot got off to a flying start. The first race of the Royal Meeting, the Queen Anne Stakes, was won by American horse Tepin. A stunning result for the horse’s first race on British soil. Punters were also delighted with the aptly named Profitable taking the King’s Stand Stakes. However, the day belonged to Frankie Dettori after he landed his second St James’s Palace Stakes nearly twenty years after his first.

Available at race odds of 20-1 the morning of the race, it won after a disappointing run by odds-on favourite A Shin Hakari. Other day 2 highlights included another double for Dettori on Lady Aurelia (Queen Mary Stakes) and Persuasive (Sandringham Stakes).

Gold Cup Day at Royal Ascot is always eagerly awaited and 2016 delivered in style. Aside from the fashions off the track (Gold Cup Day is also Ladies’ Day at Ascot), it was the mastery of trainer Aidan O’Brien that stole all the headlines. Even Song won the Ribblesdale Stakes, making it 50 wins at Royal Ascot for O’Brien. But the best was yet to come, win number 51 would be the Ascot Gold Cup. Order of George looked fantastic under the assured hand of Ryan Moore in the feature race. It was the seventh Gold Cup win for O’Brien, a stunning record in the great race. Few would bet against Order of St George and Moore teaming up to deliver an 8th Ascot Gold Cup for O’Brien in 2017.

Day 4, Coronation Stakes Day, as Royal Ascot 2016 was full of emotion and surprises. There was vindication for Dougie Costello, who had made the switch from jumps to flat racing. He was rewarded with a Commonwealth Cup win on Quiet Reflection, which saw some emotional celebrations from the jockey. There was joy for the French in the feature race, with Gregory Benoist winning the Coronation Stakes on Qewy. The win made it two in a row in the Coronation Stakes for French trainer Jean-Claude Rouget.

The Ascot Grand Finale (Day 5) 2016 rounded off a thrilling week for jockey Ryan Moore. He opened the day with a fine win on hot-favourite Churchill in the Chesham Stakes. Moore delivered again in the second race, the Wolferton Rated Stakes, on Sir Isaac Newton. The Hardwicke Stakes was taken by Dartmouth, a horse owned by Queen Elizabeth II. Moore then made in three wins for the day in the feature race, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. It would be the sixth and final win of the Festival for the three-time champion jockey.
