Coronation Stakes Day 23th June

Coronation Stakes Day (23rd June) is the fourth day of the Royal Ascot horse racing festival. The five-day event takes place from 20th – 24th June 2017 at the historic Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire. The festival holds 30 races (six each day) and features some of the finest runners and riders in all of flat racing. Important races include the Ascot Gold Cup (22nd June), St James’s Palace Stakes (20th June) and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (24th June). Day 4 holds two prestigious Group 1 races, the Commonwealth Cup (3.40pm) and the Coronation Stakes (4.20pm)

The fourth day at Royal Ascot holds six thrilling races. The opening race, the Albany Stakes, takes place at 2.30pm. The feature race is the Coronation Stakes, which was founded back in 1840 to celebrate the crowning of Queen Victoria. The other Group 1 race, the Commonwealth Stakes, is a recent addition to Ascot. It first took place in 2015, with Muhaarar the first horse to claim the prize. The final race of the day, the Queen’s Vase, is always a brilliant contest. It has been won in the past by double Gold Cup winner Le Moss (1978).

Day 4 Royal Ascot Results and Review for 2016:

There was plenty to celebrate on Coronation Stakes Day 2016, especially for savvy punters following long shot tips. The opening race (Albany Stakes) and last race (Queen’s Vase) produced 16-1 and 33-1 winners respectively. Frankie Dettori again delighted the crowds by taking the King Edward VII Stakes on Across the Stars. Dougie Costello then rode his first ever Group 1 Ascot winner to glory in the Commonwealth Cup. His horse, Quiet Reflection, ran out a worthy winner ahead of Nemoralia and Alice Springs.

The Coronation Stakes was once again won by a horse trained by Jean-Claude Rouget. Qemah’s victory ensured that Rouget would take home the prize for a second year in succession. Perhaps 2017 will make it a hat-trick of Coronation Stakes wins for the wily French trainer this year? The penultimate race of the day went to Kinema, before Sword Fighter’s heroics in the Queen’s Vase.

Who to bet on for Coronation Stakes Day 2017?

A lot of punters were impressed with Caravaggio’s performance in the Coventry Stakes (Day 1, Royal Meeting) last year. He is trained by Ascot specialist Aidan O’Brien and could well be a top pick for the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup. The distance should suit the three-year-old, who is unbeaten in four starts on the flat.
