Alligator Alley
The return to AW in October revived his fortunes, winning a 5f handicap at Newcastle off 9lb lower; better form when seeing off Cloud King at Southwell 13 days ago (runner-up didn't get such a smooth run) and that form looks solid (good time); a 3lb rise isn't excessive given his old ability and he's high on the list on his first visit to Chelmsford.

Improved for the step up to 6f in the summer, winning handicaps at Newmarket (good to firm) and Brighton (good); two runs back from an eight-week break have been underwhelming and the return to 5f needs to spark a personal best.

Alfa Whiteburd
Ended 2024 in flying form on the AW (6f) and he ran a good race at York on his seasonal/stable debut in May (6f, good), albeit off a lower turf mark; disappointing since then, including back on AW over 5f at Southwell last month (took a circuitous route through the early part of the race and was finishing off better than many); handicap mark left unchanged despite that 6l defeat and perhaps a return to 6f will see him in a better light.

Cloud King
3lb better off for 0.75l with Alligator Alley on latest Southwell run and he would have finished closer had he enjoyed a clean run through; his C&D win in August was a comfortable one and he still has more to offer on AW; leading contender.

Almaty Star
Had an excuse at Lingfield on his penultimate start (blew the start) and quickly bounced back when second over C&D last week, making the running but headed in the closing stages; 2lb well in and, the Lingfield flop aside, he is about as reliable as they come on AW; another big run on the cards.

Diomed Spirit
Six-time AW winner, two of them over C&D, and comes here on the back of a good win at Lingfield three weeks ago; Rossa Ryan retains the ride and a 3lb rise looks manageable.

Won twice for Alice Haynes as a 2yo; two low-key runs to begin 2025, the second of them his stable debut, but he was back on the right path when third over C&D last week (50-1); no obvious reason why he would reverse those placings with Almaty Star though.

Nazron
Should be well treated but it has been a mixed bag in 2025 and there has been no progress in two runs after his second wind operation of the year; likely to come good at some point and now tried in new cheekpieces.
