Trainer has had an excellent season with older horses picked up from elsewhere but this gelding, useful in his younger days for Roger Varian before an absence, finished well held on stable debut (bought for 14,000gns); can pull hard and goes beyond 6f for the first time.
2-2 on Tapeta (both over C&D, first time out last season and this) and 1-15 on turf; returns to the AW on a 1lb lower mark than for April's easy win, following a fruitless turf campaign, and better can be expected.
A few costly defeats to go with this year's two wins but he won't mind the return to Tapeta or step back up from 6f; well drawn as it turned out in first-time blinkers off 3lb lower last time and will need a career best off this mark.
Progressed on turf in the summer, often from the front, with cheekpieces going on (first-time hood added tonight) prior to a lesser effort on soft ground last time; returns to Tapeta 7lb higher than when last seen on it.
Fair debut for his new yard three weeks ago (soft) when back from a break, albeit some way off the front pair in a race run to suit those dropped in (he may well be ridden patiently again from this draw); that gave something to build on.
Generally consistent for the Crisford yard last winter without looking to have anything in hand off this sort of mark; has since been gelded and sold for 8,000gns (new trainer also runs Dream Show) and might need this run after seven months off.
Very well backed when winning a less competitive C&D handicap in July on his first start since being gelded; found out off this mark here next time but pulled hard and could yet be capable of better.
Dual turf winner over this trip for Charles Hills in his younger days; has been off since finishing lame on his debut for this yard 18 months ago and sports first-time headgear tonight having undergone wind surgery; hard to know what he's capable of now.
Infrequent winner who's finished behind Grand Karat over C&D the last twice; he was said to have been tightened up last time but again holds only outside claims.
Started favourite for both starts this summer, from a wide draw at Kempton on his return from 11 months off and when a promising second on his handicap debut at Newbury; remains open to further improvement and is high on the shortlist.
Patchy record on Tapeta and he has done a lot of his racing over a bit further; back in form in the first-time tongue-tie latest (cheekpieces come off tonight) but will need things to fall spot on back from a short break.
Has often hung right and did so throughout when tailed off at Wolverhampton last time; has something to prove after that and this is tougher off a 4lb higher mark than when last successful.
