Golf Betting at William Hill
Take your pick from a range of golf betting markets at William Hill, with tournaments held every week. Pick from the PGA Tour and European Tour, where the action runs from Thursday to Sunday.
As one event finishes, the odds for another become available, and we’ve got a wide selection of markets to choose from.
Throughout the year, you’ll see the likes of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods competing against each other, and these players are likely to feature high up in our golf betting odds.
The Majors
There are four majors to bet on with William Hill during a golf season. They are:
• The Masters
• U.S. Open
• The Open Championship
• US PGA Championship
Betting on The Masters
Every year we take a walk down Magnolia Lane at Augusta National for The Masters, which is the only major that is always held at the same venue.
Masters markets are available all year round. You can bet on the tournament winner, players to finish in the top 20, the top European and much more.
The other majors change venues every year, so research is key to find any trends or patterns.
Some players have excellent records in certain tournaments, and they are worth noting, as are the official golf world rankings with those higher up often living up to their lofty status.
Ryder Cup odds
Every two years, the best golfers from Europe take on the top players from the United States in the Ryder Cup.
This team event sees three days of intense rivalry in matches contested as foursomes, fourballs and singles.
There are several Ryder Cup golf betting markets to take your pick from, including which team will lift the trophy, correct score and the winning margin.
Solheim Cup odds
There’s also a female equivalent called the Solheim Cup. It’s played in alternating years to the Ryder Cup and follows the same formats of play.
Popular golf betting markets
At William Hill, we offer a range of golf betting markets. They include:
• Tournament winner
• 1st round leader
• Top-5 finish
• Top-10 finish
• Top-20 finish
• Make the cut – will the player make the weekend?
• Top nationality – choose from top European, Irishman, American, Scandinavian, South African, Australian and Korean.
Alongside the player markets are golf odds relating to the tournament in general. These can include golf betting on whether there will be a hole in one and how many strokes the tournament will be won by.
During each tournament, you can get the latest odds with in-play golf betting. So, if you spot a player finding form, you can back them to claim the title.
Each-way betting in golf
Each-way betting is available in most sports, including golf.
When placing a bet on the tournament winner, there’s the option of betting simply to win the event or backing them each-way. If you back a player each-way, it will cost double your original stake.
It typically pays out if the player you bet on finishes in the top number of positions, so look out for our enhanced place terms.
What is 3-ball golf betting?
In all golf tournaments, players complete their opening two rounds in groups of three, usually around eight minutes apart from another three-ball.
Three-ball golf betting is where you back one of the three players to shoot the lowest score over a specific round of golf.
Golf betting tips
Recent form is one of the more important factors in judging how a player will fare. With golf betting, you can get some big-priced winners with the number o f players lining up in a tournament.
The higher ranked players, or ones with a good record at that event, are likely to start towards the top of the betting. Whereas a player who seems to be out of form will be available at longer odds.
Another good guide is course form, because certain players thrive in certain conditions. Some events see drier greens, meaning they’ll be firm and fast, while some players are worth following when the wind picks up.
If the course is set up long, then players with a long drive are likely to be well-suited, especially when looking for scoring opportunities on the par-fives.
Length off the tee isn’t necessarily a good thing. If the rough is long or the fairways are narrow, it might pay to be a shorter, more accurate hitter. That’s where fairways in regulation and greens in regulation stats come in handy.
It might sound obvious but look for players whose putters are hot. If they’re making the putts, then they’re likely to be on the birdie hunt to climb the leaderboard.
