  • Racing Post Racing Post Verdict
  • William Hill TV  William Hill TV

A few of these should have better days ahead of them but whether any can bridge the gap with CARRIGMOORNA ROCK seems doubtful, with the Irish raider easily second-best in Graded company last time and clear here on RPRs. Broxbourne never won on anything easier than good to soft during her time on the Flat and presumably went to Fakenham for the better ground, so perhaps the totally unexposed wide-margin novice winner A Doll In Milan can head the chase.[Alistair Whitehouse-Jones]

  • Racing Post Racing Post Verdict
  • William Hill TV  William Hill TV

Royal Regatta should have plenty of potential as a chaser and is respected but he does have to prove himself on ground this soft and there are a few against him who have already taken well to fences. THE CLOCK LEARY got the job done in taking fashion on his chase debut at Ascot and is marginally preferred, though Tara Road and Jumps Road also have better days to come over fences.[Emily Weber]

HOME RUN was probably set for a return to form nine days ago before his mishap and this race, although in much more demanding company, may well provide compensation. Albert Bridge has gone so well on testing ground on the Flat that he looks very tempting and he is feared most along with Hammersly Lake, who is unexposed for Nicky Henderson. First Avenue could go well at a price.[Richard Austen]

MORE OF THAT is well ahead of these rivals on form after his brilliant World Hurdle win in March but if he's to lose his unbeaten record it wouldn't be a total surprise if it was today, when facing difficult conditions back from a break and an up-and-coming race-fit rival in Cole Harden. The latter will expose any weakness in the favourite's wellbeing and he looks the main danger ahead of Medinas, with Lac Fontana and Peckhamecho both having something to prove under the conditions.[Emily Weber]

THE DRUIDS NEPHEW (nap) ran on very well at the end of 3m3f at Cheltenham on soft ground two weeks ago and there is a good chance of a stronger pace today that will help him to settle better. On the same mark as at Cheltenham, where he finished 25l clear of the third in a useful field and the winner got first run on him, he could be extremely well handicapped. Of course, there is plenty of potential among the others, with Many Clouds preferred among that group although Djakadam's presence at the head of the betting is hard to ignore. Rocky Creek and Monbeg Dude are considered among the more exposed candidates, while the return to chasing of Fingal Bay could also have a major bearing.[Richard Austen]

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  After solid start to chasing career something went horrendously wrong at Exeter on third attempt; that aberration was two years ago and, having then been sidelined with tendon injury, he was back with a bang over hurdles this February-May, most notably winning the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham; hard to forget Exeter, but slog in the mud could be just up his street assuming he jumps.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Brought down in the RSA in March and well and truly put in his place at Aintree in another Grade 1 novice next time, but the latter was on good ground whereas he has an excellent record on soft/heavy; that was enhanced with 2m4f win on reappearance; likely to have come on from that run and with 3m+ probably his optimum, he looks in with a big shout.

 10/1 9/1 SP
Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Very easy win at Huntingdon (3m, soft) on debut for the yard; striking display at Cheltenham (3m3f, soft) two weeks ago when settling him was a constant battle and he was unable to reel in strong-staying winner who got first run, but drew 25l clear of the third; thrown in off same mark today (due to go up 6lb); despite this being an even more competitive race, if settling reasonably and jumping safely he'll have first-rate chance.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Acts on heavy; second in this last year off 5lb lower; while he ran creditably both starts afterwards, including fifth in Grand National, trainer reckons he will see his races out more strongly now; encouraging reappearance second at Down Royal and, although tongue tied first time, highly respected.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Mostly ran respectably last term and that includes his 18l fifth in this race off 2lb higher than today; very similar build-up this time round with good placing at Ascot and a stamina test suits him, but return of cheekpieces (tried once, well beaten; has run well in visor though) needs to spark something.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Won Welsh National two seasons back on heavy and took his form to another new level last December when winning at Cheltenham; good second at Chepstow on return seven weeks ago; as reappearance has not seen him at his best before, possible he can raise his game again; considered.

 28/1 33/1 SP
Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Acts on soft; first good sequence of British career when last seen in the spring, running away with Cheltenham handicap before two Grade 1 placings, latest over 2m; more needed off this mark and, although he won 3m maiden point in 2010, he's unraced beyond 2m5.5f under rules and stamina in major doubt.

 28/1 33/1 SP
Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Much of last season did not go at all well but he went close at the big Aintree meeting on final outing; shaped well on reappearance behind What A Warrior at Ascot, usual headgear now returns and he did well in the mud two winters back, but no doubt to win this requires a career best.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Has won both his starts (3m, good; tongue tied) for new yard this autumn, at Ludlow and making all in valuable race at Ascot; previously seemed effective on soft ground; now 6lb above his previous highest mark but on a major roll and hard to say he cannot find more again.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Double last winter included quite valuable handicap at Haydock (3m1f, heavy) but well below form when falling there the following month; next seen when third in novice hurdle last month, which may well have brought him on and he could be better than this mark, but something to prove at this level.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Flowered as chaser last term, winning in the mud on three of last four starts (two over 3m, one 2m6f) but not seen after February due to fractured pelvis; reappeared with win in a novice hurdle this month and should still have potential as 6yo, but this is a steep step up in class.

33/1 SP
Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  1-7 last term in his first campaign over fences but when winning at Sandown (3m, good to soft; acts on soft) three weeks ago by a very wide margin he must have raised his game a notch, maybe more; up 11lb and into a much better race, but needs some respect after a career best.

Racing Post Logo   Spotlight :  Sixth in this race last year off 3lb lower, never nearer from off pace; other top-ranking engagements did not work out on last three outings and while peak efforts make this look a decent mark, it's striking that they were at Ascot and others may well bring more potential.

Monetaire did well to get so close at Cheltenham considering his blunders and with a fluent round he must go very close but SOLAR IMPULSE made a good impression when getting off the mark over fences at Wetherby and he looks to have plenty of potential as a chaser. Anquetta didn't have the chance to show he really does handle soft ground at Cheltenham as he departed before the race began in earnest but he ran well enough to think he will play a part here.[Emily Weber]
