Royal Ascot Grand Finale

Bet on Royal Ascot Final Day with William Hill Online

Grand Finale 24th June

Royal Ascot 2017 finishes with the Grand Finale on Day 5. Sometimes known as Diamond Jubilee Stakes Day, after the day’s most prestigious race, it holds six of the festival’s 30 horse races. Royal Ascot is one of the world’s most important events for flat racing, on a par with events like the Breeders’ Cup and Melbourne Cup. The festival holds eight Group 1 races, including the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day. The 2017 Royal Ascot Festival will take place at Ascot Racecourse, Berkshire, from 20th June to 24th June.

The final day at the Ascot races opens with the Chesham Stakes, which goes off at 2.30 (UK), which has been won in the past by top talent like Maybe and Be My Chief. The most important race of the day is clearly the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Formerly known as the Golden Jubilee Stakes, the name was changed to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. The Diamond Jubilee Stakes race 2017 will take place at 4.20 (UK) on Saturday 24th June. The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes is possibly the pick of the other races on the final day of Royal Ascot. Dartmouth, owned by the Queen, ensured a fitting tribute to the Royals by winning the 2016 Hardwicke Stakes.

  • Royal Ascot 2016 Day 5 Results and Review

A bleak start to the week for jockey Ryan Moore and trainer Aidan O’Brien had turned to joy after their victory in the Ascot Gold Cup (Day 3/Ladies’ Day). By the time the festival had drawn to a close, they had stamped their authority as the most dominant partnership at Royal Ascot. Moore opened the final day by taking the Chesham Stakes on Churchill, with the odds-on favourite taking the win despite late pressure from Isomer. Moore and O’Brien’s second win of the day came in the next race, the Wolferton Rated Stakes. The race was another close-run affair, but some savvy riding by Moore ensured the victory. Next up, the Hardwicke Stakes, was a sensational race for the casual spectator. It featured everything from dropped whips to a photo finish and stewards’ enquiry. In the end, the win went to Dartmouth and jockey Olivier Peslier in a royal result for her Majesty.

Moore and O’Brien teamed up again to land the day’s biggest prize, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. The victory on Twilight Son ensured a good week became a brilliant week for the pair. It ensured that Moore and O’Brien would have the most wins as jockey and trainer respectively. The second last race of the day, the Wokingham Stakes, went to Outback Traveller with Martin Harley in the saddle. The 2016 Royal Ascot Festival drew to a close with a fine win for Adam Kirby on Commissioned in the Queen Alexandra Stakes. If anything, the final races at Royal Ascot 2016 left the crowds even more eager for the 2017 festival to begin.

Who to Bet On for the Final Day of Royal Ascot 2017

Normally the best way to pick a winner for Ascot is to look at previous form at the festival. Although not appearing in 2016, Limato was a runner up in the Commonwealth Cup in 2015. However, it is the impressive win at the Prix de la Forêt in Chantilly in October that has propelled Limato into a possible winner of this year’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Churchill showed a lot of promise in the Chesham Stakes in 2016, perhaps he will fulfil that potential in the 2017 St James’s Palace Stakes (Royal Ascot Day 1).
