Cheltenham Ladies Day

Bet on Ladies Day With William Hill

Day 2 - Wednesday 15 March

Bet on 2017 Ladies Day with William Hill

Ladies' Day at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival will fall on Wednesday 15th March. It features seven great races, including the eagerly anticipated Queen Mother Champion Chase. Ladies Day is the second day of the Cheltenham Festival, which is held at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire in mid-march each year. The Festival is one of the most important in the jumps (national hunt) horse racing calendar. It features some of the most important (and exciting) races of the year, including the Champion Hurdle, Supreme Novices' Hurdle, JCB Triumph Hurdle, JLT Novices' Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Cheltenham Ladies’ Day begins officially with the first race, the Neptune Investment Novices Hurdle at 13.30pm. But of course, it is called Ladies’ Day because of all the fabulous frocks and costumes on display, so the fun and excitement also happens away from the races. The Cheltenham Ladies dress code calls for the finest dresses, hats and handbags, but it is all in the name of good fun. Ladies Day 2017 will surely not disappoint, both in terms of fashion and horse racing action!

The results of Ladies' Day 2016 were testament to a thrilling day's racing. Day 2 of the festival opened with a big win for Ruby Walsh in the Neptune Investment Management Hurdle. He rode second favourite, Yorkhill, to a stunning victory over compatriot Barry Geraghty on Yanworth. Next up, the crowds were treated to a thriller when Blaklion landed the Grade 1 RSA Chase. The third race of the day went to Diamond King, in what was a fine ride for jockey Davy Russell.

The fourth race of the day was the Queen Mother Champion Chase, and despite all the quality runners in the field, all eyes were on two horses: Sprinter Sacre and Un De Sceaux. The latter was the hot odds on favourite, whereas the former was gingerly returning from an injury ravaged a couple of years. The race will live long in the memory of festival goers. Sprinter Sacre rolled back the years to win an astounding race, leaving trainer Nicky Henderson in tears as his horse was led into the Cheltenham winners' enclosure. The day was capped off with wins by Any Currency (Cross Country Chase) Diego Du Charmil (Fred Winter) and Ballyandy (Champion Bumper).
