Looking back to the Day 4 Cheltenham results in 2016 doesn't tell the full story of a tremendous conclusion to the Festival. The day opened with a cracking race, the JCB Triumph Hurdle, which saw Barry Geraghty romp home on Ivanovich Gorbatov. Harry Skelton then landed the County Handicap Hurdle on Superb Story, a horse trained by his brother, Dan. The third race of the day, the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, went to Noel Fehily on the brilliantly named Unowhatimeanharry.

The marquee race of the Cheltenham Festival, the Gold Cup, was up next. It contained a stellar field of runners and riders, including Cue Card (recent King George Chase winner), Djakadam (highly fancied Willie Mullins horse) and the favourite, Don Cossack. They could not be separated in the odds and bets placed, but when the race went off Don Cossack showed his class by crossing the line with aplomb. It was a thrilling race that provided a worthy winner. Day 4, and the Festival itself, was finished off with wins by On the Fringe (Foxhunters Chase), Ibis Du Rheu (Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle) and Solar Impulse (Grand Annual Chase).
