Ladies Day

Bet on Ladies' Day at Aintree with William Hill

Friday 7th April

Bet on Grand National Ladies Day with William Hill

Ladies’ Day is the second day of the Grand National Festival. Held at Aintree Racecourse, near Liverpool, the festival is a three-day national hunt racing event featuring some of the best horses and jockeys around. The centrepiece of the festival is of course the Grand National race itself, but there are several other important races that take place across the three days. Notable races on Day 2 include the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase and Melling Chase. Grand National Ladies’ Day 2018 will take place on Friday 13th April. The first race of Ladies’ Day, the Aintree Handicap Hurdle, will go off at 14:20pm.

2018 Grand National Ladies Day Betting Guide

Arguably the most important race of Ladies’ Day is the Melling Chase. It often features horses that have competed in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham a few weeks beforehand, thus a quality field is guaranteed. There is a distinct possibility that this could throw up a showdown between Douvan and Altior in 2018. Both are among the best chasers in recent years, and they should be saddled by top jockeys Ruby Walsh (Douvan) and Nico De Boinville (Altior).

A brilliant race is almost guaranteed. There are three other Grade 1 races on Day 2 of the Grand National Festival - Crabbie’s Top Novices’ Hurdle, Mildmay Novices’ Chase and Sefton Novices’ Hurdle. Again, quality runners are scheduled for these races, and it may be worth looking at the Cheltenham results to get an idea of your horse’s big race temperament. Trainers are also very important. Paul Nicholls, for example, has an excellent record in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase, winning four of the last eleven races.
