St Patrick's Thursday

Some tips for betting on St Patrick’s Thursday

Day 3 - Thursday 15 March

Cheltenham Festival day three – what’s on and when

It’s the JLT Novices’ Chase that will get the third day of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival underway at 13:30, with this followed by the Pertemps Final at 14:10. Want a tip for betting on the Ryanair Chase at 14:50? The first two finishers in each of the last two years were both trained in Ireland, which is ideal on St Patrick’s Thursday. The Stayers’ Hurdle is the day’s buzz race at 15:30, then it’s the Brown Advisory & Merribelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase at 16:10, the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at 15:50 and Kim Muir Chase last of all at 17:30.

What to bet on in the Stayers’ Hurdle

The betting odds for the 2018 Stayers’ Hurdle has been consistently changing in the build up to the race with Supasundae, Sam Spinner and Yanworth all having stints at the head of the market. This trio are just as difficult to split on official ratings, with only 1lb separating them before the start of the Cheltenham Festival. Others lurking further down the Stayers’ Hurdle betting that may be foolish to rule out include L’Ami Serge, The New One and Unowhatimeanharry.

Your ‘how to’ guide for St Patrick’s Thursday betting

All you need to do is select the horses you want to bet on from day three’s seven races and then visit one of three places to put on your bets. Your options are to head to a William Hill shop and place your bets over the counter or on an SSBT, download the app and find your selections there or add your picks to our betslip online. For those wanting to bet on the apparent banker of St Patrick’s Thursday, Irish horse Laurina is heavily fancied to win the Mares’ Novices Hurdle.

Willie Mullins started relatively slowly by his own standards at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival, but normal business resumed on day three as he racked up four winners. Mullins accumulator backers could have enjoyed a sensational day, with Yorkhill, Un De Sceaux, Nichols Canyon and Let’s Dance all tasting success in their respective Cheltenham Festival races. With Un De Sceaux and Laurina well fancied, Mullins could be halfway towards a repeat again. Last year’s Cheltenham winners can be seen below.
