Grand Finale 24th June

The final day of Royal Ascot 2017 takes place on June 24th. Sometimes known as the Grand Finale or Diamond Jubilee Stakes Day, it closes the spectacular five-day horse racing festival in style. Royal Ascot will take place from 20th June – 24th June. It features 30 races, including the Ascot Gold Cup (22nd June), St James’s Palace Stakes (20th June) and the Coronation Stakes (23rd June). Highlight of the final day include the Hardwicke Stakes and the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

Day 5 of Royal Ascot opens with the Chesham Stakes at 2.30pm. It has been won in the past by some top horses like Be My Chief and Maybe. The most important race of the day is the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Its most famous winner is undoubtedly the Black Caviar. The Australian mare is one of the most decorated horses in the world in recent years, and dazzled the Ascot crowds with victory in the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes. One of the other highlights of the final day at Ascot is the Hardwicke Stakes. It was won by the Queen’s horse, Dartmouth, last year.

Royal Ascot Final Day Results and Review for 2016

The final day of Royal Ascot truly belonged to jockey Ryan Moore. He had already silenced his critics by winning the Gold Cup on Order of St George two days previously. However, he showed why he is considered one of the best jockeys in the world with three stunning wins on the final day. Moore took the opening race, the Chesham Stakes, in fine fashion on Churchill. The horse showed a lot of promise in the easy victory, something to think about for punters as this year’s Ascot. Moore then made it a quick-fire double by taking the Wolferton Stakes on Sir Isaac Newton. Darmouth then ran out a 10-1 winner in the Hardwicke Stakes with Olivier Peslier in the saddle.

Moore then landed his sixth and final win of the festival with victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Twilight Son. For once, he was not celebrating with Aidan O’Brien, having opted to ride for Henry Candy. Gold-Fun and Signs of Blessing completed the places in the day’s feature race. Outback Traveller won the Wokingham Stakes and Commissioned won the final race of Royal Ascot 2016, the Queen Alexandra Stakes.

Who Should I Bet On for the Final Day of Royal Ascot 2017?

Henry Candy’s Limato showed some class in the Group 1 Prix de la Forêt at Chantilly in October 2016. The horse had previously come second in the Commonwealth Cup in 2015. Candy has demonstrated that he knows how to train a winner for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes after Twilight Son’s win last year. Could Limato make it two years in a row for Candy? Elsewhere, Churchill’s performance was a particular highlight last year. Could light up Ascot Opening Day 2017 with a win in the St James’s Palace Stakes?
