  • Thursday April 6th - Grand Opening Day Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, England
  • Friday April 7th - Ladies Day Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, England
  • Saturday April 8th - Grand National Day Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, England

  • Few races in the world capture the imagination like the Grand National, this year to be held 8th April, 2017. A three-day racing festival has been built around the National – The Randox Health Grand National Festival, which will take place from 6th-8th April 2017 at Aintree Racecourse, near Liverpool. The festival holds 21 races in total, 11 of which are Grade 1 races. If you are attending the Festival, you are in for a treat. It is one of the sporting and social highlights of the year. It blends dramatic racing action with a dash of pomp and ceremony off the track. There is no formal dress code for the Grand National Festival, although tradition holds that you should dress up formally for Ladies’ Day (7th April).

Even those who don’t normally bet, will have a flutter on the world’s most famous horse race. An estimated 600 million viewers put it on a par with the Super Bowl and World Cup Final. It is, quite simply, the world’s greatest horse race. But, it is also among the toughest. 4 miles 3 and half furlongs, with jumps like The Chair and Becher’s Brook, even finishing the race is seen as a feat.

Of course, all eyes are fixed on the Grand National race. It is an event that is part of the very fabric of sporting history. Heroes like Red Rum and Bob Champion will be remembered for decades, not just weeks and months. Although the Grand National takes place in the UK, the Irish too put their stamp on the great race. A golden period at the turn of the millennium saw several wins for Irish trainers, including Hedgehunter (2005) for Willie Mullins. The 2016 winner, Rule The World, was also trained by Ireland’s Gordon Elliott and ridden by compatriot David Mullins. Ruby Walsh, Daryl Jacob and Barry Geraghty are other jockeys who have crossed the Irish Sea to win one of racing’s richest prizes. The Grand National 2017 will take place on Saturday 8th April at 5.15pm.

Of course, you can bet on the Grand National with ease at William Hill. But before you bet, you might want to check out the Grand National key trends in our betting guide. This will provide advice as to the different criteria that make the perfect Grand National bet. You can also see all the predicted runners and odds for the 2017 race on our Grand National betting page.

Place your bets on the world’s greatest horse race

Around 40 horses will line up for this year’s Grand National. Despite what some people might say, picking a winning horse is not just a lottery. You can analyse the key trends and statistics to give yourself a better chance of landing a winner. The good news is that Grand National odds are normally very generous, with 100-1 winners not uncommon down the years. Last year’s winner, Rule The World, came in at a tasty 33-1. Don’t forget, top bookmakers like William Hill will pay out on several e/w places, so you can still make a profit if your horse comes in 4th or 5th.

So, how does the Grand National betting 2017 shape up? Rule The World has been retired, but several other horses showed in last year’s race that they may have what it take to be Grand National winners. Vieux Lion Rouge, Ucello Conit and The Last Samuri all had strong finishes and should be back for the 2017 National. Throw in quality like One For Arthur, Shutthefrontdoor and Blaklion into the mix and we are looking at a potential thriller this year.

Top Grand National 2017 betting odds are available right now at William Hill. You will also find comprehensive information on Grand National runners and riders, tips and much, much more. Don’t forget, there is more than just one race at the Aintree Festival. Grand Opening Day (6th April) will feature the Aintree Hurdle (3.25pm). Ladies’ Day (7th April) will host the JLT Melling Steeple Chase (3.25pm). Even Grand National Day (8th April) has three Grade 1 races, including the Liverpool Hurdle (4.20pm), to compliment the big one.

Join us now to celebrate the world’s greatest horse race at one of the best national hunt festivals. William Hill will have full coverage of the festival and will provide the best ways to bet on the Grand National race itself.
